Dr Manmohan Singh
MBBS, FRNZCGP
Director, Shareholder and the only active founding member of MediCross. Dr. Manmohan Singh moved to New Zealand 30 years ago to further his career in medicine after graduating in 1978. He worked at Taranaki Base Hospital for 10 years, gaining experience in a variety of different fields, before pursuing his true passion as a general practitioner. He completed his training in General Practice and was awarded fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of General Practitioners in 2002.
Dr Singh has closed his general practice in Stratford and works at MediCross. Even with his vast medical experience he continues to thoroughly enjoy his work and the challenges of working in an urgent care setting.
When he is not busy working his hobbies include watching sport, listening to music and being in the company of family and friends. He particularly likes spending time on the internet, keeping up with current affairs from all over the world, and has a soft spot for technology gadgets.
Dr Jan de Klerk (Medical Director)
BMedSci, MBChB, BA (Psy); FRNZCUC; PGDIP Com Emerg Med
Jan moved from South Africa to New Zealand in 2001. He obtained his medical degree at the University of Pretoria in 1982. In 2010 Jan became a Fellow of the College of Urgent Care Physicians in New Zealand. He has two sons and two grandchildren.
Committee member of the College of Urgent Care Physicians.
Other interests include running marathons (and in the past ultra marathons), tramping, travel and gardening.
Jan’s new interest is providing a home stay business in New Plymouth called Tivoli Homestay
Dr Hilary Sarhatt
FRNZCGP
Hilary was raised in Tustin, California and graduated from the University of California, Davis. She decided to pursue medicine after her travels to Europe.
She attended medical school in Chicago and then completed her family practice residency in Johnson City, Tennessee.
After her training she moved to rural Utah to work as a GP and as an A&E doctor. After 11 years of desert life she was ready for a new adventure and she and her family moved to New Zealand to live and work.
Outside of work she is a busy mum of two. She enjoys reading history, fiction and poetry, practicing yoga and continuing her travels.
Dr Riaan Van Wyk
MBChB; B Com
Riaan was born in Pretoria and raised in South Africa. Riaan completed his medical degree at the University of Pretoria.
He moved to New Zealand in 2013. His passion is photography and gardening.
Dr Simon Hammond
FRNZCGP
Dr Simon Hammond obtained his medical degree at Otago Medical School. He worked as a GP in Auckland for many years and has been a locum doctor at MediCross previously. For the past four years he has been a GP in Queensland.
Dr Hammond and his wife have relocated back to New Plymouth, his wife’s hometown. They have just welcomed into the world their first grandchild. His special interests are chronic disease management, child health, and skin cancer surgery.
